IEP OT Advocate

An IEP (Individualized Education Program) OT (Occupational Therapy) advocate works to support students with disabilities by ensuring that their IEP includes appropriate occupational therapy services and accommodations. Their primary role is to advocate for the student’s specific needs related to physical, sensory, or motor skills development, which can be addressed through OT interventions.

The advocate collaborates with parents, teachers, school staff, and healthcare professionals to ensure that the IEP is tailored to the student’s unique needs, helps them access their education, and promotes their overall development. They may assist in identifying necessary evaluations, reviewing assessments, and ensuring that the services provided are consistent with the recommendations in the student’s IEP. Essentially, they ensure that the educational system provides the necessary support to help the student succeed and thrive in the school environment.
